Public works office studying request for 3 bridges: board member
By Reynaldo G. Navales

MABALACAT -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has already referred the local officials' demand for three bridges to its Urgent Bridges Construction Project for Rural Development (UBCPRD) division.

Board Member Tarcicio Halili said DPWH Regional Director Ramon Aquino has forwarded the request for bridges that will be put up in Balitucan-Santo Nino in Magalang town; Santa Maria here; and Dau, also in this town.

In his letter, Aquino asked UBCPRD project director Emil Sadain to consider Halili's requests, which include the transfer of the flyover in San Fernando City to the commercial district of Dau here.

The traffic condition in the business district, with commuters going to and from the Clark Special Economic Zone (CSEZ), has worsened because of the massive development in the area, according to Halili.

Once transferred to the Dau junction, the flyover is expected to ease up traffic congestion in the area, Halili said.

The DPWH is starting to dismantle the flyover in San Fernando City to give way for the construction of a permanent structure.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, through the efforts of Halili and other local officials, including Mayor Marino Morales, vowed to prioritize under the government's bridge program the two other bridges that are situated in farm-to-market roads in municipalities.
