Editorial: The new man at CDC

THE news is finally out. Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Levy Laus is indeed it.

His appointment as CDC president is long overdue, many have been saying upon hearing of his new designation. It can be recalled that Mr. Laus was rumored to be the replacement of Dr. Emmanuel Angeles when the latter filed his resignation in 2005.

Everyone was anticipating it, but then came Antonio R. Ng from Cebu, and his appointment as CDC president raised howls of protests from some sectors of the Kapampangan community because he is not Kapampangan, of course.

But now that Mr. Laus's appointment is official, businessmen and local officials expressed excitement over his appointment.

Many have spoken, indeed, on what Mr. Laus can do for the CDC, what they expect of him, and the businessman's capabilities to further develop the state-owned firm in terms of investments.

Subic-Clark Area Development Council chairman Edgardo Pamintuan has this to say about Mr. Laus: he will come like a whiff of fresh air - like a welcoming breeze, indeed.

In fact, EdPam is looking forward to working closely with Mr. Laus, and expressed optimism that they will help each other in fast-tracking President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's major projects.

So much has been said about the man, but Mr. Laus is choosing to keep quiet amidst the noise his appointment is making in the province.

What he has got to say about it, we will know in a day or two, we are sure.
It would do well to wait, we think. After all, patience is a virtue - and this has certainly paid off for Mr. Laus.
