Editorial: Good news amidst the bad
IT'S somehow a breath of relief that dengue cases in the region had declined this year.
It's a sigh of relief, yes, compared to the stories, which have come out in this paper the past few days where mudslinging and name smearing, among a few, were apparent.
For now, our minds can rest from the issues, which seem to be hounding the community, although the province has 472 reported dengue cases.
At least, we can look forward to the fact that through the strategies being implemented by respective local government units, the number of dengue cases would not be as numerous as before.
The decline in reported dengue cases can also be attributed to the information dissemination conducted by the local government units in the respective localities.
This alone was done with hard work and effort, and was not an easy task.
The cleanup campaign also helped in reducing, if not preventing, mosquito breeding sites from flourishing.
What we must all remember is to be wary of the symptoms of dengue and be alert at all times. We must know and recognize the early signs of dengue, which is an effective way in itself in preventing the spread of the disease.
The earlier the detection, the better it is for everyone.
Anyone who recognizes a symptom on someone should inform the nearest health center. Or better yet, he or she can accompany the afflicted person in the nearest hospital.
It's the least we can do for our neighbors. Also, everyone is encouraged to observe the so-called 4 o'clock habit, which incidentally, means the simultaneous cleanup in communities.
This is a nice idea, if you think about it... and if you are really adamant in fighting the spread of the deadly disease.
