Rookie Lady Pelicans bag bronze in college sports

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The debut year of the University of the Assumption (UA) Lady Pelicans in the Colleges and Universities Sports Association (Cusa) has earned them some respect from other participating teams.

This was after bringing home the bronze medal in the 12th season of Cusa, besting some other teams in the tournament for quite sometime.

"This was the fruit of our labor," said Gerry Flores, head coach of the UA Lady Pelicans, after his team captured the bronze medal at the expense of the World Citi College (WCC), 57-54, Wednesday afternoon.

"It was a hard fought game. No one can say who will win the game until the final buzzer," said Flores.

Kristell Yamat and Lolita Molo led the Lady Pelican's campaign earning 12 points apiece while Rutchell Manansala added 11. Sharlet Balaquit and Noemi Lacap did their share adding seven points apiece.

Flores claimed that his players were very inspired coming into Wednesday's game and were very determined to bring home the medal.

"I give the credit to the players. All of them delivered and did their part. It is also a very good start for us since it is just the first time for these ladies to join Cusa," Flores said.

"I also want to commend the staff completing this team for their unerring support all throughout the tournament," he added.

After this season, Flores promised that they will be shooting for a better finish next season. (RCG)
