Saturday, September 23, 2006 Family Week celebrations slated By Raymond C. Garcia
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region III will launch the "Family Week Celebration" at the Commission on Audit (COA) gymnasium in barangay Maimpis, this city on September 24 to 30, 2006.
This is in cooperation with various national government agencies, Social Action Center of Pampanga (Sacop) and Aweca Foundation.
The theme for this year's celebration is "Bida Ka Pamilyang Pilipino."
Adelina Apostol, DSWD Region III assistant regional director and concurrent chairman of the steering committee for the family week celebration, said "the celebration aims to promote and strengthen the Filipino family through the participation and support of various government and non-government organizations in the region."
"The week-long celebration is mandated under Proclamation Nos. 60 and 847 declaring the last week of September as 'Family Week' and the last Sunday of September every year as 'Family Thanksgiving Day'," Apostol added.
Activities are also lined up for the week-long celebration in coordination with various agencies.
A film showing for family-oriented films will be showcased which were negotiated with the Movie and Television Review Board (MTRCB), guesting of representatives of steering committee member-agencies over radio stations dwRW and dwCL.
Moreover, there were negotiations made with restaurants for discounts for family-participants.
The celebration also showcase hanging of streamers at strategic places and on government and private establishments, motorcade from the COA office in Maimpis passing through St. Jude Village, Pampanga Provincial Capitol, San Jose going to SM.
There will also be a photo exhibit on families, flag-raising and a short program, orientation of government employees on Republic Act (RA) 9344 by Pastor Elias Talavera and a candle lighting which will be led by Reverend Father Deogracias Kerr Galang of the Social Action Center of Pampanga.
