'Wowowee' goes to Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- ABS-CBN's top noontime game show "Wowowee" will hold its show Saturday at the East Gate Center here.

"Wowowee," which is popularly known to give big prizes to its participants will hold its show in this province in order to give Kapampangans the chance to have a taste of the show even without going to Manila.

ABS-CBN officials said this is also the network's way of reaching out to the people in the province who cannot afford to go to Manila to participate in the games that the show offers.

Conceived as a no-brainer noontime game show hosted by Willie Revillame, "Wowowee" is famous for giving away as much as P2 million in cash daily.

The house and lot package was to be the grand prize in the "Pera o Bayong" segment, where 300 players would have taken part.

Also, a traditional part of the show was for overseas-based Filipinos in the audience to greet their families abroad. These balikbayans would usually donate dollar bills, collected in a basket passed around during the show, to comprise the consolation prizes for losing contestants in games like "Willie of Fortune" and "Bigatin".

The show was launched last year, that organizers envisioned it to be a source of hope and money for the poor.

"Wowowee" replaced the variety show "MTB...Ang Saya-Saya," which was hosted by Edu Manzano and Ai-Ai de las Alas. It has been drawing thousands of people to the ABS-CBN headquarters in Quezon City. (RCG)
