Editorial: The ‘village’

THERE is a “village” in the town of Porac, inhabitants of which are, believe it or not, all Koreans.

Not that there is anything wrong with Koreans choosing the town as their place of residence, but local real estate developers fear that they are being “bypassed” by these seemingly enterprising Koreans land developers, to the extent of seeing the foreigners as “gobbling up” Porac land.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Local real estate developers said the Koreans are getting themselves involved in the selling and development of lands in the town, instead of the locals doing it.

And to whom do they sell the lots, you ask? Why, their fellow Koreans, of course, through the good old reliable internet.

Interested buyers can even buy the lots freely, without them seeing where the lot is located or what it looks like.

The buyers don’t even have the chance to investigate if what they are buying from their fellow Koreans are legitimate lots with proper titles.
So much for high tech.

What more, we have received reports that the roads leading to these subdivisions which the Koreans themselves developed are “rough”, in that they are not even cemented.

Environmental and health problems also abound, what with piggery farms nearby. Mosquitoes and flies can be seen everywhere, we were told.

Really? What did the Korean developers see in the area? Are the lands there cheap as they come? What do they have on their minds?

Many are coming to the conclusion that these developers may be bogus, that they are merely out to victimize their unsuspecting fellow Koreans and give them a run for their money.

We don’t know if we should pity them or we should be cautious of these fellows. We have no idea what is brewing in their minds as of now.

We just hope that they are not up to no good in that peaceful, secluded town.
It’s too scary to even think about it.
