Governor’s inter-agency ball games kick off

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Governor Mark T. Lapid Inter-Agency Basketball and Volleyball Tournament officially kicked off recently at the People's Sports Center here.

According to provincial sports coordinator Gil Cortez, the Inter-Agency tournament is composed of basketball and volleyball games, which is being participated by the different agencies of the provincial government.

"This tournament which was actually initiated by Governor Lapid aims to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship among government employees coming from various agencies in the province and to also enhance physical fitness and alertness," Cortez added.

Cortez said a brief but colorful opening ceremony was staged before a huge crowd at the People's Sports Center-Capitol following a parade along the major roads leading to the Capitol compound.

Among the participating teams in the basketball tournament are Land Transportation Office (LTO), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), CSF Water District, Pampanga Provincial Police Office (PNP/PPO), Registry of Deeds, Philippine Postal Corp., Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital, Department of Health (DOH), Department of Education (DepEd), IBP/Judiciary, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Capitol and team Kapitolyo.

Meanwhile, the participating volleyball teams in the women?s division include Department of Health (DOH), PNP/PPO, IBP/Judiciary, DOLE and Pampanga Capitol, while teams from Registry of Deeds, DepEd, IBP/Judiciary, DPWH and Pampanga Capitol participates in the men's division.

Among those who graced the opening ceremony were Provincial Administrator Fidel Arcenas, Provincial Treasurer Vergel Yuzon, Provincial Sports Coordinator Gil Cortez, Provincial Agriculturist Mario Mangiliman, Paul "Concon" Laus, GSO Engineer Lulu Alingcastre, Assistant Provincial Information officer Bong San Pedro, Dole Regional Director Nathaniel Lacamba, Water District Manager Jeorge Gumba, Rose Simbulan (LTO), DOH officials Dr. Edna Abcede, DOH Director Rio Magpantay and DOH Administrative Officer Florinda Elepaño.

DBM Assistant Director Ms. Elena V. Escanio, Pampanga Provincial Police Director Leonardo Espina, Registry of Deeds Regional Director Atty. Lorna Salangsang Dee, BIR Reg. Dir. Jose M. Tan and DPWH Construction Division Chief Eng. Luisito Sibug.

The panel of judges awarded Anthea Roa Murset as the best muse from Capitolyo basketball team and Julie Ann Ayson (DPWH) and Reanette Lumacing (DepEd) for volleyball's best muse. In addition, the best in uniform special award was given to the DOH Basketball Team, DPWH Volleyball Team (Men) and Pampanga Capitol Volleyball Team (Women).
