Editorial: On turning 11

WE SHOULD be proud, turning 11 and all. After all, we have surpassed the decade mark by about a year.

We should also be proud by the fact that still, Sun.Star Pampanga is the only existing daily newspaper in Central Luzon. Of course, there is the always the possibility that somewhere out there, someone is planning to put up a newspaper to match ours... but they have a loooooooong way to go.

Sun.Star Network Online round-by-round coverage of the Pacquiao-Morales Sunday fight here

Sun.Star Pampanga, over the years, has been able to seep in through the community's tightly woven net, a feat we are quite proud about also, but not to the point of being arrogant... at least not yet.

When we first started, we remember people clucking their tongues and shaking their heads in despair, trying to recognize the name "Sun.Star Pampanga".

Our reporters laugh at remembering a day in their lives when Sun.Star Pampanga couldn't seem to register in the minds of the people they were trying to interview.

When trying to introduce themselves as reporters of this paper, all they got as reactions from these people were glazed eyes and questioning looks. Of course, there was that question, "Sun ano?"

Haha. So much for trying to make a good first impression.

But anyway, we don't get those glazed-eyes-questioning-looks anymore, mind you. And we don't hear that dreaded question anymore.

Now, it's more like, "Ah talaga? Taga-Sun.Star ka? Edi kilala mo si..." and then starts the litany of former colleagues, alive or dead, who shared the trials and triumphs of Sun.Star Pampanga.

Eleven years is not enough for us. It's still too short a time for us to make a name for ourselves, although we know for a fact that we are already recognized by the community as a credible newspaper.

We have a long way to go, but there is one thing we are really, truly proud of. We are way ahead of the rest.
