Girl raped, killed
By Raymond C. Garcia

STA. ANA -- A 12-year-old girl was raped and killed in Barangay Sta. Maria here on Sunday, a police official said.

Sta. Ana Police officer-in-charge Henry Flores said the victim, "Regina" (not her real name), was a resident of the barangay while the suspect was one Jojo Guillermo Solita, 20, of Negros Occidental.

Witnesses said they last saw "Regina" Sunday morning going to a nearby sari-sari store to buy some school materials.

There were speculations that the suspect cornered the victim and took her to a piggery compound where she was raped and then killed. There are also speculations that there were two suspects involved after Solita said he was not the one who raped the girl but admitted he strangled the victim.

A witness said he saw Solita coming from the crime scene that day.

The suspect was also examined for scratch marks on his body, which most probably may have been caused by the victim when she resisted and fought him during the assault.

Moreover, the victim's fingernails were also earlier taken by the police for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) examination that will form as part of the additional evidence against Solita.

Solita was charged with rape with homicide and no bail was recommended.
