By Dante M. Fabian

MABALACAT -- Public officials and common folk here and in nearby Magalang have thrown their all-out support to the first district board member bid of Councilor Liza Pineda.

Jun Castro, executive assistant of Pampanga Governor Mark Lapid, said Pineda "will be good for the people because of her unblemished public service record."

"As a resident of Dau which is part of the first district, I believe Liza Pineda will be an asset to the pro-poor programs of the governor. I speak for myself," said Castro, who spoke to Sun.Star Pampanga during a recent visit at the Lapid Mansion in Porac town.

A deeply religious person, Pineda was personally chosen by Lapid to be the standard-bearer of the ruling Lakas Party for his "genuine concern to the welfare of the people, added Castro.

Association of Barangay Captain (ABC) president Bok Tiglao of this town and Rodolfo Gonzales of Magalang have also expressed their support to the board member bid of Pineda. The two top barangay executives were with Castro when they spoke to this reporter.

Castro said Pineda "will be a loyal and model board member who will push the good cause of the party headed by President GMA."

Earlier, Pineda said she will work for the establishment of a community college catering to the needs of students who want to defeat poverty. She added that she will be helping Lapid who "only wants the best for the people."

Roberto Flores Jr., a member of the Mabalacat Referees Association (MRA), said he had witnessed the willingness of Pineda to put first the welfare of the residents above anything.

"Pineda belongs to a prominent family and I think she will not be a corrupt politician," said Flores, a resident of Barangay San Joaquin here.

Others residents said "they will support Pineda because they have an obligation to put into power God-fearing leaders."
