Wednesday, January 10, 2007 Execs see bad effects in power coop takeover By Raymond C. Garcia
APALIT -- Officials of the Pampanga Electric Cooperative (Pelco) 3 on Monday expressed their concerns over the possible effects of an alleged takeover on their consumers.
The officials said the alleged takeover of the power provider by the Asiaphil Management Resources Incorporated (Amri) "would have various negative effects, particularly among local consumers."
Pelco 3 officer-in-charge Emil Cortez said taking the scenario of an alleged takeover of leadership, the cooperative might turn out to be under a private ownership.
Thus, Cortez called for all concerned citizens that if there is cooperation among them, they could avoid the possible turn around. He also said consumers in particular as well as collectors and the cooperative's employees should work hand in hand.
He said if ever Amri takes over, "there would have effects on the services, a possibility of monopoly on management and a possibility of higher electricity rate in order to recover their expenses."
But Amri president Fanny Salas said there is just a misinformation about the alleged negative effect of the takeover to the consumer. The company wanted to manage the power cooperative by the end of March of this year.
