I am one of countless followers of your column. I think you write sensibly and you are knowledgeable in law. This is important for a public official who will be our mouthpiece in Congress.
From the list of congressionables, we find it disturbing to note that no one seems to be qualified. Dong Gonzales is an engineer. Dinan is also an engineer. Tiger is a commerce grad. Congress enacts law where lawyers have a decided edge.
We cannot expect Dong or Dinan, however competent, to shine. They are engineers who are knowledgeable on roads and bridges; not bills and laws. Lawyers have been trained in the field of the law and Congress is a legislative body. Without maligning some senators including our own Sen. Manuel "Lito" Lapid, can they say they fit in the Senate? We cannot blame them because they are not trained in the law. Why did Dr. Rey Aquino decide to go home and leave Congress? This can only attribute to the fact he is not at home in legislation where he was not prepared.
Congress is an institution where the best lawmakers shall be sent by their constituents. We should send a qualified representative; not a square peg in a round hole.
We know that you were once the president of the Integrated Bar, Pampanga. Under your watch, your chapter was adjudged the best -- meaning you are respected in the legal profession. Your well-read legal commentaries speak volumes.
We know that you are a professor of the law and this will give you a good start if and when you are elected. This is best for the district.
Please give it a try. The people of the Third District of Pampanga deserve a better choice than those who have declared their intention to run.
