CAMP OLIVAS -- Second-hand car dealers can no longer sell their units unless they acquired a permit-to-sell from the authorities, said Traffic Management Office (TMO) Regional Director Eleuterio Gutierrez Jr.
In a recent dialogue with big time car dealers in Angeles City, Gutierrez said the notice is served to protect buyers and legitimate car dealers from passing on stolen cars and sports utility vehicles.
"With this new requirement, we aim to further reduce the market for stolen motor vehicles in Central Luzon," he said.
The campaign dubbed as "Operation Plan Segunda Mano" is a joint undertaking by the TMO3 and various local police offices in the region.
Gutierrez and Angeles City policemen led by Senior Superintendent Sony Cunanan served the notices to different car dealers as an initial step to enlighten the people engaged in the business about the objective of the project.
The permit to sell, Gutierrez said, can be obtained in any police station in the respective places, provided the vehicles they are offering for sell underwent clearance check, engine, and chassis number not tampered, and the vehicles are included in the list of hot cars.
After the serving of notices, second -hand car dealers are given 30-days to comply with the requirements.
"Anybody caught violating or not complying with the requirements stated in the notices, after the 30-day period, the vehicles on display for sale will be subjected for seizure in favor of the government," said Gutierrez adding that the criminal charges will be filed against them. (MHD)
