Wednesday, February 28, 2007 Candidate offers Hong Kong trip to teachers By Marna H. Dagumboy
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Public school principals and supervisors were allegedly offered free trips to Hong Kong by a well-known candidate in the province, reliable sources said.
The source said the school principals and supervisors were "approached" by the candidate to secure their passports in preparation for the trip.
But Education Provincial School Superintendent Rosalinda Luna denied that school principals and supervisors are scheduled for an out-of-the-country trip.
In fact, Luna said she has warned school principals and supervisors to perform their duties as members of the board of canvassers during the May elections. She added that DepEd officials here are closely monitoring the move of the public school teachers and principals who will serve in the upcoming elections.
She assured the people of clean and fair elections in the province, as far as the public teachers are concerned, even as she confirmed that teachers, principals, and supervisors here never cheated during the past elections.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) usually deputizes public school supervisors, principals and teachers to act as chairman or members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI). They are actually the first line of defense against election fraud.
