ANGELES CITY -- The College of Computer Studies of the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) was recently recognized as a Center of Excellence (COE) in IT Education by the Commission on Higher Education (Ched), said AUF Chancellor Emmanuel Angeles.

Ched chairman Carlito Puno said AUF was chosen based on the stringent criteria set by the Technical Panel for IT Education (Tpite).

AUF College of Computer Science (CCS) dean Dennis Ramiro Sangalang said: "AUF-CCS was recognized because of its leadership and commitment in advancing IT education through competent instruction and state-of-the-art facilities."

To date, there are more than 700 IT schools nationwide and only nine were identified by the Ched as COEs, namely, Dela Salle University (DLSU), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), University of the Philippines (UP) Los Baños, UP Diliman, AUF, Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT), Asia Pacific College, UP Cebu, and the University of Cordilleras (UC).

Established in 1983, AUF-CCS is the only nodal station in Central Luzon that provides IT training to different education institutions in the region. The college is housed at the AUF Information Technology Training Center (ITTC), a five-storey building that was donated in 1999 by the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (Asha) under the auspices of the United States Agency for International Development (Usaid).

At present, AUF-CCS has existing partnerships with recognized IT giants such as IBM, Oracle and Microsoft for collaborative undertakings.
