Wednesday, May 23, 2007 Balingit: Back to normal By Allan Balingit On a High Note
THE votes have been counted, the winners proclaimed, the losers humbled, while others raged. To the victors the spoils, the vanquished ponders, ravaged pride is all they could handle.
Well, it is just me waxing a little bit poetic in that opening line after a short period of hibernation from writing. With that, I would take this belated opportunity to congratulate those that got elected in office. Whether you deserve it or not, the people had spoken, so you better do your job as you promised during the campaign.
At any rate, I do believe that most of them are deserving of their victory, particularly those that got elected here in Pampanga. I think we as Kapampangans should be proud of that, because despite widespread attempts of some people to win over the voters with juicy offers coming via the way of, "makasalukbaba or itang papel a ating atlung buntuk," the will of the people still prevailed.
Although I have heard that some local political leaders are still wary of a subsequent backlash, failing to back their words with action after assuring imminent victory of the candidates they've carried and worked for, this despite being given enough resources to do so. That is why rumors have it that some are trying to lay low for a while, sasalikut la kanu detang menyipit parada.
Meantime, as there are magnanimous winners and losers that are good sports, we still can't seem to shake those sore losers who always emerge every after elections.
Sila yung hindi natatalo, nadadaya lang. There are some who refuse to admit the fact that they lost, even after doing everything possible one can think of in order to win an election, legal or otherwise. Si Garci nga natalo e sila pa kaya.
Nothing wrong in being determined but one should also face reality. There is always a next time; politics in this country is a vicious cycle, same parties slugging it in every election to claim the spoils. Among Ed Panlilio however is the exemption to that rule. He is like a fish trying to swim against the tide. We pray though, that he makes it.
Meanwhile, as the cycle turns, the losers have the comfort of knowing that they could regroup, plot and connive to try to bring down the winner, while the victors in the meantime have enough time also to gather, covet and acquire resources to thwart the impending attacks against them.
Anyway as we move on, let us hope that our recent elected officials would be the catalyst of change that we all are waiting for, the ones that would break the cycle that continuously bring us deeper into misery.
As recent events here in the province prove that there is still hope, there is a stronger reason for us to keep that hope alive by supporting our leaders; especially Among Ed.
