Wednesday, June 27, 2007 HAU enrolment highest in 20 years
ANGELES CITY -- Despite the downtrend in enrollment posted by other schools in the region and throughout the country, Holy Angel University (HAU) registered this school year its highest college student count in over 20 years.
As of June 22, the college population of the region’s biggest university was 12, 033 and still growing, as late enrollees, especially in the Graduate School, continued to queue up for registration. The last time the university hit the 12,000th mark was in school year 1985-1986.
The number enrollees who were high school valedictorians and salutatorians from various towns in Pampanga also rose sharply this semester, with some 27 valedictorians, 22 salutatorians and 289 upper 10 percent graduates signing up with the university.
The university grants 100 percent and 75 percent scholarships to high school valedictorians and salutatorians, respectively, who enroll in any of its seven colleges. This year, the class topnotchers from schools located as far as Arayat, Macabebe, Sta. Rita, Guagua, Mexico and Tarlac, enrolled in HAU.
The College of Business and Accountancy remains the biggest college in the University with 5,103 enrollees, followed by the College of Nursing with 2,376, College of Engineering and Architecture with 1,860 and College of Information and Computer Technology with 1,421. The College of Arts and Sciences has 529 enrollees, College of Education 510 and Graduate School 234. All except the College of Education exceeded the previous school years tallies.
Even the high school and elementary school departments registered enrollment increases this school year.
HAU’s reputation is at an all-time high because the whole community knows about our Paascu accreditation, the autonomous status given by Commission on Higher Education (Ched), our performance in board examinations, our campus improvements, and our improved operations and services, Robby Tantingco, the university’s assistant vice president for student services and affairs, said. The timing cannot be better. We are celebrating our diamond jubilee next year.
Tantingco also attributed the increase in enrollment to the joint efforts of the administrators and faculty to promote the school.
