Tulabut: Advisers not from God
By Noel G. Tulabut
Palm Notes

I DO NOT want to even mention the name of God’s arch nemesis in my column title. I thought that is giving the Lord’s foe undue attention.

But let me cite again what Governor Eddie Panlilio’s staunch campaign supporter – Willie Villarama – said: “some advisers are from God, some advisers are from Satan.”

The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) director was not criticizing Gov. Ed at all when he said that during an interview by Sonny Lopez in his tv program Aksyon Central Luzon. It was only several days after the proclamation of the priest-turned-politician and so I believe that he was just trying to apply an experience in the political realm, him being a former Congressman.

And Mr. Villarama could be right with his remark. Some of Gov. Ed’s advisers appear not only to be sheeps in wolves clothing. They are downright devilish.
How could not they be branded as such when they have cleverly and successfully pulled the governor into signing documents that put him to shame.
First, there was this letter that requested for the deferment of bidding of infrastructure projects of the province. The letter was ill-prepared as it branded the past dispensation of Mark Lapid and Yeng Guiao as “caretaker government” with their mandate yet to end then by June 30, 2007 or several days before the governor-elect’s assumption to duty.

Second, this letter which requests “blanket authority” for Among Ed to enter into contracts, deeds of donation, memorandum of agreement. This request was not only ill-advised and controversial (and highly irregular too as Yeng puts it), it has put Among Ed to embarrassment.

Too bad Gov. Ed, with his noblest intentions to only receive donations that will be covered by a legal document (as he justly defended his request), is being thrown into a muddy pit where he is perceived to be struggling. No thanks to some of his advisers and aides who are used to the smell of sulphur, after all, they indeed come from Hades.

Now his advisers from God are also disgusted and disappointed at how Gov. Ed was made to thread to a path to a seeming perdition. I’ve heard that some prominent businessmen and multisectoral leaders who convinced him to run for Governor (and were successful) are no longer smiling at what is taking place at the Capitol.

Let us pray for Gov. Ed, for a stronger discernment, for knowledge and illumination. Let us pray that he learns to put his feet firmly on the ground before his advisers who may be out there with him with concealed vested interests. I join all his supporters who are praying for him to succeed.

As it was his intent when he requested the provincial board for an authority, the good governor means well in accepting donations for and in behalf of the needy Cabalens. But some of his advisers are not helping him any in getting his mission done at all. They are pulling him down. Had they been rowing into his direction, they could have written the letter-request well, citing only that specific request.

Too bad, again, Gov. Ed was made to look bad before the public.

The Advocacy for the Development of Central Luzon (ADCL) is looking into the recurring problem of stench and wastes emitted by several piggeries in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Porac and in Barangay Lara, City of San Fernando.

The ADCL, chaired by businessman Rene Romero, will be checking into businesses near these piggeries recently complained of the stench, claiming that it gravely affects their operations.

Several restaurants near the boundary of Porac and Angeles City, as well as those located along Mac Arthur Highway near Barangay Lara in the City of San Fernando, have been bombarded by complaints from their clients.

The issue of these piggeries goes back as far as 1999 when the Krusada Kontra Amoy (KKA) composed of multi-sectoral groups prompted the Environment and Management Bureau Region 3 to investigate this problem.

But through the years, these piggeries failed to fully use the necessary technology required by the environment department for the maintenance of their wastes disposals.

ADCL will coordinate with the environment department as well as with other groups concerned in this issue.

In order for businesses to thrive and the people to be productive, it is important that each member of the community does his share in protecting the air we breathe, the water we drink, the land we till and all the natural resources we use everyday.

ADCL will be helping mediate and find possible ways how the piggeries can address the problem.
