CLARK FREEPORT -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced Thursday that about 3,000 jobs would be generated once the US$1-billion Texas Instruments (TI) facility, which will be built here, becomes fully operational.
During her speech at the groundbreaking of the TI's assembly and test facility, the President said the needed skilled workers would come from Central Luzon.
"Texas Instruments would be generating about 3,000 jobs on top of the 3,000 employment it generated in Baguio City," Arroyo said.
The investment of TI in the freeport, according to the President, has proven the competitiveness of Filipino workers and the strategic location of the country.
President Arroyo is responsible for encouraging the US-based firm to invest in Clark. TI Clark is the largest among the firm's facility all over the region, she added.
Clark Development Corporation president Levy Laus said the TI production complex is the biggest single investment in the economic history of Clark. Its initial production is expected to start next year.
TI designs and manufactures analog, digital, signal processing and chip technologies that help customers develop products for affordable mobile phones to classroom projectors that support remote learning to prosthetic devices.
The President, meanwhile, lauded the Angeles University Foundation, including its chancellor Manny Angeles, for including in its curriculum the skills needed by Clark locators like TI.
