Police ready for Estrada plunder case promulgation
By Marna H. Dagumboy

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 is now preparing for the upcoming promulgation of the plunder case filed against former President Joseph Estrada.

PRO3 Director Erol Pan said the policemen were alerted in a bid to prevent any untoward incident during the case promulgation.

He disclosed that the Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) contingent of the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) 3 led by Senior Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan will be deputized for security around the Sandiganbayan in Metro Manila.

Pan said the CDM contingent has been undergoing rigid practice particularly in facing mob rule. He also said at least 10 policewomen will be included in the CDM to act on situations involving women.

He added that aside from the “on-hand” implementation of CDM movements, periodic accounting and tactical inspection of troops including membership training and zeroing of firearms are being undertaken.

Senior Superintendent Alfredo Caballes, deputy regional director for administration of PRO3, said aside from the promulgation of Estrada’s case, Central Luzon policemen are also focusing on anti-criminality, anti-insurgency and other eventualities that might happen because of the situation.

“(Our new director) has been very vocal and direct to the point as regards his priority programs and one of this is the strengthening of security to vital installations, economic key points, places of convergence and other probable terrorist targets in order to ensure public safety,” Caballes added.
