CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Monday will herald in this city five-day recognition of women’s important role in society.
The San Fernando Women’s Day, celebrated every 10th day of September, is scheduled in time for the commemoration of the birth of Nicolasa Dayrit, a San Fernando heroine.
Celebration although will be held until Friday by virtue of Executive Order (EO) 2007–18 of Mayor Oscar Rodriguez which created the Executive Committee for the San Fernando Women’s Week Celebration.
In partnership with several women organizations like Council of Women, Quota International, Soroptomist and Girl Scout of the Philippines, the San Fernando City Government, through the executive committee headed by Dr. Leticia Yap will hold on Monday a mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral.
After the flag ceremony, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Henson-Hizon House where Nicolasa Dayrit’s monument had been erected.
San Fernando Women’s Day in recognition of the significant role of Dayrit, whose birth day falls on the same day, in safeguarding and protecting the revolutionaries during the Spanish occupation and other unnamed Kapampangan women who made important contributions to nation building and in shaping our society.
Through the City Nutrition Committee, a “Budbud Sustansya” and Solar Disinfectant Lecture will be held at the Plaza Vidal de Arrozal of City Hall.
A cultural show will also be held at the amphitheater of Wow Hilaga.
On September 12, a lecture on Republic Act (RA) 9262, breast cancer, breast feeding and cervix cancer will be given to women participants.
Likewise, free papsmear will also be provided for Fernandinas at the Plaza Vidal de Arrozal.
Livelihood trainings for footspa and reflexology will also be facilitated.
The objective of the celebration, the City Government said, is to inform the public the importance of the contribution of Dayrit and other Kapampangan women not only to San Fernando but also to the nation, and to develop awareness and promote women’s significant role in the society.
