AICS students plant trees to adopt 10-hectare land

MABALACAT -- Students of the Asian Institute of Computer Studies (AICS) Dau branch recently conducted a survey and tree planting activity along the slopes of Mt. Arayat in preparation for adopting a 10-hectare land by the school.

This is in line with the regional agenda project of the Green Philippines Project of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo which aims to plant 1.5 million trees along the areas of national shrines and critical watersheds.

AICS students conducted the initial planting of 200 mahogany seeds within the area of the Arayat National Park. This would later pave the way for the inking of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) and school authorities. The school is set to adopt a 10-hectare land along the Magalang side of Mt. Arayat.

The agreement would require both parties to join in a mutual cooperation of reforestation along the adopted area.

Students enrolled in the National Training Service Program (NSTP) would be responsible for providing the needed manpower.

According to Ricky Hernandez, Cenro officer, the project aims to awaken a genuine concern for the environment among students.

“The Cenro is welcoming concerned groups and institution to join us in protecting the environment and creating tangible actions to accomplish the goal of the Green Philippines Project,” he said. (IOF)
