Sunday, September 09, 2007 Mabalacat officials told to stay out of Dau politics
MABALACAT -- A local trader based in the business district here is appealing to “big-time politicians” to stay out of Dau politics.
“Let the people select their leaders in the upcoming barangay election,” said Jun Castro, a businessman based in Dau who earlier announced his official bid for the village chief post.
Castro has been steadfast in his bid to run for the barangay election despite the official pronouncements of the camp of Mabalacat Mayor Marino Morales that the mayor’s son would be running for the same position.
Barangay Councilor Marino “Atlas” Morales already defined his election battle cry as “Sulong Barangay Dau” while Castro is aiming at a five-point agenda dubbed “Focus Dau”.
“We welcome the entry of Atlas (Councilor Morales) and recognize him as a worthy contender,” Castro said, adding that other would-be candidates pose little “threat” in the upcoming elections.
Castro also said Dau residents are already dissatisfied with the present barangay administration and would like to experience a dynamic change in leadership. Barangay Dau has been earning criticism from local media because of the village’s problems on waste disposal and peace and order.
Castro and Morales would also be contending with incumbent Barangay Dau chairman Louie Cunanan and Dau Councilor Marlon Manalastas. (IOF)
