CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Organizers of this year's Sinukwan Festival are expecting more support from the Pampanga Provincial Government for the success of the nine-day celebration of the province's unique culture in December.
Rev. Resty Lumanlan, president of the Foundation for Lingap Kapampangan Inc. (FLKI), said they are hoping the P100,000 the foundation is receiving as a subsidy every year would be increased to cover the growing expenses of the annual festivity.
The FLKI, formerly named the Save Pampanga Movement, began staging the Sinukwan Festival in December 1998. The festival was integrated to the Pampanga Day celebration in order to further enrich the cultural dimension of the annual affair being pushed by the Provincial Government.
This year, the Sinukwan Festival will remain to be holding most of its activities at the premises of Robinson Starmills, the festival's major partner.
Now on its 10th year, the Sinukwan Festival will commence on December 1 with the opening ceremonies, food and crafts fair, photo contest, and "Prinsipe at Prinsesita Ning Sinukwan" at the Robinsons Plaza Atrium.
On December 2, a holy mass will open up a whole-day affair which includes the "Pamangan Kapampangan" at Consunji Street, Art/Bonsai Exhibit, "Gayak at Piblas" Designers' Fiesta and Cultural Presentation.
Peter de Vera, one of the members of FLKI and artistic director of the Sinukwan Festival, said street dancing, which is the highlight of the festival will be held for two days.
Culminating activities will be held on December 8 but a noontime show on December 9 will also be part of the festival.
