Arroyo extols Pampanga entrepreneurs
By Albert B. Lacanlale

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday praised entrepreneurs in Pampanga as she congratulated 11 Kapampangan businesses that have helped develop Pampanga “as a new frontier for progress.”

Speaking during the “Go Negosyo sa Pampanga” caravan, initiated by the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE), the President said Kapampangan entrepreneurs have inspiring stories that are worthy to be shared to people who would like to go into business.

Arroyo, talking mostly in Kapampangan, pointed out that during her post-graduate studies, she had noted how scholars mentioned the Pampanga-based entrepreneurs in their theses as the “most outstanding entrepreneurs.”

Monday’s Go Negosyo caravan is the latest leg of the PCE entrepreneurial campaign, which has already gone to Cebu, Bacolod, Baguio, and Manila.

In Pampanga, the awardees as most inspiring entrepreneurs are Ryan Razon (Razon’s), Jose Bituin (Betis Crafts), Jaime Uy (Saver’s Mall), Prudencio Garcia (Mekeni Meat Products), Lolita Hizon (Pampanga’s Best), Michael Escaler (PASUDECO), Willy Tan (Hausland Development Corp.), Peter Nepomuceno (Nepomuceno Group of Companies), Teresa David-Carlos (Bank of Florida), Dr. Emmanuel Angeles (Angeles University Foundation) and Fatima del Rosario (Sasmuan Delicacies).

The President said Go Negosyo tends to awaken the Filipino entrepreneurial spirit.

Slated at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here, the activity is a one-day affair aimed at offering the public with business opportunities through exhibits and discussions led by some of the country’s well-respected entrepreneurs. It is part of PCE’s latest endeavor which will also take trips to Cagayan, Makati, Batangas, and Pangasinan.

“We can provide more entrepreneurs of their (awardees) caliber. It is part of our legacy to support three million entrepreneurs until 2010,” Arroyo said.

The President was joined by Presidential consultant for entrepreneurship and PCE founding trustee Jose Concepcion III, Presidential Management Staff chief Cerge Remonde, Cabinet Secretary Ed Pamintuan and Presidential assistant for North Luzon Lorelei Fajardo, Clark Development Corporation president Levy Laus, Clark International Airport Corporation chairman Architect Nestor Mangio, Archbishop Paciano Aniceto, Pampanga Governor Eddie Panlilio, Vice Governor Joseller Guiao, some Provincial Board members, Pampanga congressmen led by Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, host Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and several mayors and government officials.

Arroyo also pointed out her administration’s effort to establish the foundation for a broad and strong middle class, which will in the long run combat poverty.

Go Negosyo sa Pampanga is supported by the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
