Tuesday, October 30, 2007 6 charged for violating election law
MABALACAT -- Six persons here were arrested due to alleged violation of the Omnibus Election Code.
The suspects were identified as Alex Fernadez, 45; Ronald Garcia, 23; Robert Tan, 19; John Garcia, 38; Eduardo Galang, 45; and Richard Garcia, 23, all of Balaba Phase 2 in Barangay Dau, this town.
The six were arrested by members of the Traffic Management Unit on Sunday night while they were allegedly posting campaign materials on the concrete fence of the Dau Central Elementary School.
The law prohibits the posting of campaign materials beyond the campaign period or on the day before the day of the election.
Mabalacat Police Chief Jovencio Flores said the suspects were charged on Monday before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in the City of San Fernando.
According to Flores, any citizen may arrest a person who is committing a crime by virtue of the so-called citizen’s arrest as provided for under the law specifically the provision on the “warrantless arrest.”
The suspects were temporarily detained at Mabalacat Police Station. (RGN)
