'Ultimate Idol' bets hold feeding program

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Candidates for Barangay Ultimate Idol (BUI) Search of Puregold Dau trooped to Barangay Sindalan here for a feeding program targeting children of marginalized families in the area on Thursday.

According to Wilbert Serrano, event organizer, the activity was to immerse the BUI candidates into the various social issues in the barangay level especially on the problem of malnutrition. "We want them (BUI candidates) to see the real situation and be involved not just because this is part of the competition but because as responsible citizens they have a social responsibility towards others in the community," he said.

The BUI search was organized by Puregold management as a talent search for young teens with well-rounded talents and personality. The search features real life challenges and tasks that hone the candidates' values, according to Serrano.

The BUI candidates facilitated the feeding program for more than 50 children at the Sinadalan Public Gym. The candidates staged a short program of production and song numbers and gave away prizes like electric fans and gift certificates.

"We hope that such activities would open the eyes of the candidates and the local barangay officials as well on the problems and issues in the barangay," Serrano said. (IOF)
