10 Cabalens compete for song fest finals Sunday By Raymond C. Garcia
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Ten finalists for the 1st Artists Supporting Local Artists Guild (Aslag) Kapampangan song-writing festival will be pushing their luck for the top prize Sunday.
The competition slated at 4 p.m., will kick-off at the event center of the SM City Pampanga.

Each entry will be judged according to the following: Harmony (the quality of tune, melody, and rhythm) 35 percent, Lyrics (the arrangement of words and ideas) 35 percent, and Over-all Impact (music treatment, commercial appeal, uniqueness and break through qualities) 30 percent.
Cash prizes of P20,000 awaits the grand winner, P15,000 goes to the second placer, P10,000 for the third placer. Each finalist also have consolations prizes of P5,000.
The 10 finalists include Dakal a Salamat Inang by Benefredo Guinto, Uli Mu, Muli Ku by Jose Irwin Nucum, Nukarin Ka? by Arnie Zablan, Sana by Landle Quiwa, Ika mu ing Tune para Kaku by Harvey Quiwa, Balen nang Juan by Federico Agudera and Rodrigo Gatbonton, Jr., Pangaku by Kenneth Macapugay, Ika Mu by Mark Jedh Yutuc, Palsintang Dalaga by Jowel Jomarsus Gatus and Nitoi Mallari and Pamagbayu by BJ Allapitan and Mario Salamat II.
Aslag Kapampangan contest aims to develop, promote and preserve the Kapampangan culture and the arts and offer opportunities to the Kapampangan talents to enhance their craft and deepen their passion for Kapampangan culture and the arts.
Organizers are also contemplating to produce the first commemorative album of the Aslag Kapampangan pop music festival.
"The Aslag Kapampangan aims to share and preserve the Kapampangan music of our contemporary era by producing a commemorative album. It will also help the talented Kapampangan artists by giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents," said Fr. Ronnie Cao, one of the prime proponents of the said project.
Entries may fall in different categories such as gospel- inspirational, hip- hop, pop, folk, rhythm and blues, jazz, country, latino, mellow rock, reggae and dance.For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star General Santos.
