Christmas is big at SM Pampanga

SM CITY Pampanga will celebrate the holiday big time as it once again becomes the venue for the world famous Giant Lantern Festival on Saturday, December 15 at 7 p.m.

The festival is now on its 79th year, and will feature giant lanterns no less than 18 feet in diameter, and sparkling with 3,500 to 5,000 light bulbs each.

Expert artisans from San Fernando's different barangays -- Del Pilar, Dolores, Telabastagan, San Juan, San Felipe, San Nicolas, Sta. Lucia, and Sto. Niño -- will craft the eight giant lanterns.

Spearheaded by the City Government of San Fernando, the Ligligan Parul 2007 will showcase new lantern designs conceptualized and crafted by prominent Kapampangan lantern makers.

The giant lanterns will be judged according to the design, color combination and the interplay of lights and color with music.

The competition will be divided in three parts, the first part will be an individual practiced display synchronized with music chosen by each barangay; the second one will be a simultaneous exhibition by two groups of five barangays each to music chosen by the festival committee.

The last part will be simultaneous display of all the ten competing giant lanterns to music pre-selected by the committee.

Also not to be missed are the Spectacular Fireworks Display at SM City Pampanga.

Catch these grand pyrotechnic shows on these dates -- December 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 22, and 29! Be serenaded with all -- time favorite Christmas songs as various choral groups perform live on SM's Caroling Cheers from December 17 to 23, 3 p.m. at the Building 4 Mall Atrium.

It is a tribute day for the so-called "modern day heroes:" -- the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) on December 16 at the Event Center of SM City Pampanga.

Spearheaded by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa), the OFW Family Day 2007 is in recognition of the OFWs' great contribution to the country.

The Filipino workers abroad who will register will each be given an "SM Kababayan Kit," which includes a food and raffle stub.

A star-studded holiday on Tuesday awaits all shoppers as SM City Pampanga and the City Government of San Fernando once again host the annual Metro Manila Film Festival Parade of Stars on December 18 at 3 p.m. Friday.
