Tuesday, December 18, 2007 Mayor's son as SK ex-officio board member By Albert B. Lacanlale
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The municipal youth leader of Mexico town was elected president of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Pampanga on Monday, earning one of the ex-officio slots in the Provincial Board (PB).
John Eric Tumang, son of Mexico Mayor Teddy Tumang, was unopposed in his bid to lead the SK Federation in the province, replacing outgoing board member Salvador Dimson III of Lubao.
Tumang, 16, garnered a total of 20 votes from the same number of SK municipal and city presidents in the province during the balloting held at the Max's Restaurant here.
A second-year high school student of the Don Bosco Academy, the young Tumang is fourth of the five children of Mayor Tumang to the former February Velasco, a Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) employee.
The young Tumang assured his colleagues that he would very well represent the youth before the halls of the PB.
His journey towards the PB has been smooth-sailing since the start. He was also unopposed in the SK elections for both barangay and municipal levels.
John purported rivals in the race for the PB slot did not wage a battle, leaving for him a clear road to becoming federation president.
Also elected in the federation were Miguel Morales of Mabalacat as vice president; Liziene Flores of Minalin as secretary; Ara Czarina Ronquillo of Sto. Tomas as treasurer; Czarmaigne Laus of this city as auditor; Venessa San Miguel of Magalang as public relations officer; and Marco Fajardo of Floridablanca as sergeant-at-arms.
Monday election was supervised by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) regional and provincial offices, Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office, Pampanga Provincial Police Office and the PB.
DILG Central Luzon regional director Josefina Castilla-Go administered the oath of office of the newly-elected federation officers.
