Limlingan: Atty. Gerome N. Tubig, punong barangay
By DP Limlingan
The Advocate

IN 2001, Tubs, as he is fondly called then, finished his law degree at the San Beda College of Law in Mendiola, Manila where he graduated 9th overall. He took the bar examinations in the same year and passed the same with an average grade of 85.55 percent. His most impressive grade was in Remedial Law, where he obtained a grade of 98 percent.

Since this representation wrote about Atty. Gerome Tubig, the duly elected and incumbent barangay leader of San Vicente, Macabebe, Pampanga, I have received quite a number of emails and suggestions from our avid readers and friends in the legal circle to write a little some more about him. I now accede.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

Worthy of featuring as a newly elected barangay official, he is a neophyte in politics, yet a veteran in giving service to the public. Mitatas ne talaga ing uri at antas ing pamanungkulan. Pati keng barangay atin nang abugadung manungkulan.

Not to make this column his resume', allow me to briefly tell my dear readers a little bit of Tubig. He is a native of Macabebe, Pampanga where he took up his earlier schooling at the San Vicente Ferrer Elementary School in Macabebe, Pampanga.

Graduating as a class valedictorian, he finished his secondary education at the San Vicente-San Francisco High School in Macabebe, Pampanga, where he again graduated at the top of his class.

Gerome obtained his degree in Bachelor of Arts major in Political Science at the University of the Assumption in San Fernando, Pampanga.

While waiting for the results of the bar examinations, he worked as an apprentice at the Auction and Cargo Disposal Division of the Bureau of Customs (DBC), Port of Manila.

After passing the bar, he joined in May 2002 the then Roco Kapunan Migallos Perez & Luna Law Offices, the late Senator Raul S. Roco's law firm.

According to reliable sources, Tubig was one among the five lawyers whom Senator Roco trusted to defend him when he was charged before the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission (PAGC).

While in Senator Roco's law firm, sources have it that he was also involved in various intellectual property, corporate and litigation work, and have in fact met as adversary the likes of Atty. Sigfried Fortun, among others.

In 2004, Tubig went home here in Pampanga to start his private practice and do his share in delivering justice in his hometown. The same ideal, coupled with his advocacy for good governance, led him run as barangay leader of San Vicente, Macabebe, Pampanga.

As for his start, he manages to devote most of his time giving reality to his conviction of serving his kabarangays. I never realized him before, throwing his hat to the ring. I wonder as to where level he might be come the next polls. He deserves more than he is now.

His humble beginnings, his achievements, and his dedication to public service should inspire his constituents, his fellow local officials and kapampangans as well. We wish him the best.

Merry X'mas to one and all!
