Thursday, December 27, 2007 Guv to teachers: impart Christian values to students
GOVERNOR Eddie Panlilio recently spoke before school supervisors, principals and more than 8,000 public school teachers in an event celebrating Teachers Day and Education Week at the Bren Guiao Convention Center and exhorted them to impart human, Christian and universal values among their students.
"I am a product of a public high school in my hometown of Minalin," the governor proudly said. Thus, he said he is "saddened by the common perception that public school education in our country is besieged with irregularities and corruption".
The governor said that since the onset of his administration, the Provincial School Board had met five times and four of these he attended. "He had full knowledge of the situation and needs of public schools," he added.
He reiterated that his governance has education as top priority. The Provincial Government has purchased construction materials and classroom fixtures to speed up the rehabilitation of school buildings.
It has as well initially launched the program 57-75 in the towns of San Luis, Floridablanca, Masantol, Mabalacat, Porac and Minalin.
The Program "hopes to improve the quality of education given to public school students by providing learning materials and addressing their nutritional needs."
The governor stressed the importance of the role of teachers particularly in the value formation among students. He called on them to support the advocacy of Pampanga as a model of transparency, good governance and good citizenship.
Since much of the time of students is spent in school, he said teachers can do much to mold them into becoming adults with values of good, honest, just and responsible persons.
When the governor asked the crowd of teachers as to who among them will support his anti-illegal gambling campaign, there was an overwhelming show of hands.
The gathering organized by the provincial office of the Department of Education (DepEd), featured a dance-drama competition on Pampanga myths, legends and folklores.
This activity was one of the highlights of the 436th Aldo ning Kapampangan celebrations. (PIO)
