Year-long tourism events set in Clark

CLARK FREEPORT -- All are up and about at the Tourism and Promotions Office (TPO) as the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) has slated various tourism-related activities for year 2008.

First off is the 1st International Clark Marathon to be held on January 13 at the CDC Parade Grounds where at least 5,000 athletes and spectators are expected to flock to the event.

CDC president Liberato Laus said thousands are expected to watch athletes from Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines compete in Clark's first ever international marathon.

Next to make waves at the Clark Freeport is Globe Asiatique's launching of its latest subdivision -- Xevera. The launching, to be held on January 19, would be highlighted by a free concert at the amphitheater of the Clark Expo.

Laus said he is proud to announce the long-awaited concert of Lea Salonga at the Clark Expo's amphitheater on January 25.

Also at the Clark Expo is the Honda One Make Race to be held from January 26 to 27. The event would also be staged along Gil Puyat Avenue here.

On January 26, the CDC would be hosting the Clark Chairman's Cup 2008 at the Mimosa Golf and Country Club, Laus said.

Laus furthered that the event would be graced by executives and key officials of various Clark firms, CDC board of directors, including those from the Clark International Airport Corp., Bases Conversion and Development Authority, Subic-Clark Alliance for Development Council, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, local government units, and various national agencies.

He added that officials from the Clark Investors and Locators Association, Air Transportation Office (ATO), Manila North Tollways Corp. (MNTC), and Northrail are also expected to join the event.

February is jam-packed with various activities like the 12th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta to be held from February 7-10, Clarksiyahan from February 8-10 at the CDC Parade Grounds, a drag race at the Centennial Road on February 9, the 1st CDC President's Cup at the Clark Karting Circuit on February 10, and the Milo National Marathon on February 17.

For the middle part of the year, Laus said the CDC has lined-up the following activities -- 2nd Clark Off-Road Duathlon and the Rockrakan sa Clark: Summer Explosion 2008. All would be held in April.

In August, Clark is host to the International Rugby Tournament to be held at the Challenger Field here. This would be followed by a stage play by the Gantimpala Theater Foundation which will hold the event at the Clark Expo amphitheater in September.

The last quarter of the year, according to Laus, would be culminated by a noble event -- the Race for a Cause (Motorcycle Drag and Circuit race) to be held at Centennial Road in October. (RGN)
