Prioritize safety in fluvial parade: board member

MASANTOL -- Next time, safety should be the priority.

Learning from the mishap in the recent "Labas Larawan" (fluvial parade) in Barangay Alaluli in Masantol town, Pampanga fourth district Board Member Ricardo Yabut has proposed to devise safety measures.

This, according to Yabut, will help prevent the same tragedy that killed two persons, including a 12-year-old boy, last week here.

Twelve others also suffered bruises and burns in the incident.

Yabut said he will propose an ordinance regarding some safety measures that will act as guide for the people and for the organizers of the fluvial parade.

The ordinance, according to him, will include setting of limit in the number of participants that can ride the “pagoda” to prevent it from collapsing.

"We will also require age limit to those who will ride in the pagoda wherein those aged below 18 years old would not be allowed to rid in,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yabut said the cooperation of the parents of children and those below 18 years old will be needed. He said parents should not allow their sons and daughters to board the pagoda for their own safety.

The board member also said he had already coordinated with Provincial Social Welfare and Development Director Luchie Gutierrez about the financial assistance the province will provide for the victims. (RCG)
