18 young women vie for Miss Mabalacat 2008
By Reynaldo G. Navales

MABALACAT -- At least 18 lovely candidates are vying for the prestigious Miss Mabalacat 2008.

The candidates will display their beauty and talent during the pre-pageant and talent presentation on January 26, 2008, Mabalacat Fiesta Committee chairman Diosdado Pangilinan said.

Among the candidates are Ruby Ann Hernandez, Kimberly Wijangco, Anna dela Cruz, Therese Joan Gueco, May Ang Delfin, Nelly Rose Sison, Anna Davane Yabut, Nicole Gale Rivera, Joanna Marie Tuazon, Leveriza Martin, Daniella Luz Cruz, Erica David, Josephine Kozma, Stephanie Mallari, Carmina Ocampo, Rizelle Manio, Kaycelyn Garcia and Joyce Ann Luna.

The screening of candidates was held last January 12 and 13 at the Mabalacat Municipal Hall.

This year's pageant will highlight the awarding of Miss Caragan aside from the three title runner-ups and Miss Mabalacat Tourism and Miss Mabalacat.

Pangilinan said the pre-pageant and talent portion presentation would be held on January 26 at SM Clark with sneak preview of the Caragan Festival.

The Miss Mabalacat coronation night, on the other hand, will be held on February 1 at 7 p.m. at the Mabalacat Patio.

Pagnillinan said the winner of Miss Mabalacat would represent the town in the upcoming "Mutya Ning Kapampangan" in December in celebration of Pampanga Day.

Other categories in the Miss Mabalacat include Miss Mabalacat Tourism and Miss Mabalacat Sinukwan while minor prices will be given to Miss Photogenic, Miss Friendship, Best in Swim Suit, Best in Gown, Best in Casual Wear and Best in Talent.

Pangilinan said other events were lined up during the fiesta including the launching of the Caragan Festival, which is akin to Cebu's Sinulog and Bacolod City's Masskara.

A tilbury race, horse show, golf tournament, Pindang Festival and "Kasiyaan Keng SM Clark" will also be held.

Pangilinan said a homecoming dubbed "Ding E Kukupas" would also honor Mabalaquenos who have made great strides around the word.

Pangilinan said Arnel Tapang will choreograph the pageant and Ding Baluyut will be the event designer. June Magbalot remains as chairman of Miss Mabalacat.
