MEXICO -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the local government unit here entered into an agreement on Wednesday for the implementation of the "Adopt a Mojon" program here.
Regidor De Leon, DENR executive regional director, and Mayor Teddy Tumang signed a memorandum of agreement for the program that intends to establish and preserve the Philippine Reference System of 1992 or "mojon."
A "mojon" is a mark on land made of concrete wherein the latitude and longitude coordinates called geodetic control points (GCPs) are written for land surveys use.
De Leon said this town is the first among the localities in the whole region where such agreement has been sealed.
"We have received feedbacks that the municipality has already initiated steps towards establishing proper locations of mojons," de Leon said.
Under the agreement, the DENR vows to conduct periodic inventory and recovery of geodetic control points and other reference points; provide the official list, locations, and maps of the geodetic control points for adoption; and identify and carryout measures to protect geodetic control points.
Absence of proper boundary markers, such as "mojons," in properties often lead to feuds and court litigations, he said.
Through the years, mojons established in past were displaced by natural or man-made interventions.
Tumang said the town is supporting the program since the Municipal Government is updating its database on lands for real property valuations.
