SAN Simon Vice Mayor David Dalisay and other municipal officials have asked the Pampanga Provincial Government to allow quarrying and desilting operations in the town.
This, they said, is to help realize the multimillion-peso housing projects that will benefit a huge number of poor people not only in the town, but also from nearby towns.
Dalisay said about 25,000 truckloads are needed to upgrade the area into a residential land from an industrial one, as the Municipal Council here approved its conversion through a resolution.
The vice mayor also said he is optimistic that the Provincial Government will approve their request since it will be used for a good cause and for the "poorest of the poor" in San Simon and nearby localities.
The P50 million worth of land donated by the Living for Christ Foundation Incorporated will be the location of the more or less 1,000 units of houses.
The project is a partnership between the National Government that will take charge of the upgrading and development of the site, the Living for Christ foundation that will finance the construction of the houses, and the San Simon municipal government, which will provide all the necessary documents and paper for the project.
The local government will also determine the possible and potential beneficiaries of the houses after creating the committee composed of five people including one from the religious sector.
The signing of the Deed of Donation between the representatives of the foundation and the Municipal Government took place last week at the Astorias Hotel in Ortigas Center in Metro Manila in the presence of former immigration commissioner Andrea Domingo, among others.
