1st Ibon-Ebon Festival launch in Candaba
By Raymond C. Garcia

CANDABA -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will grace the launching of the town's first "Ibon-Ebon Festival" on Friday.

Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo said the celebration of the Ibon-Ebon festival, slated on Friday until Saturday, starts at the Poblacion area with merry making and street dancing presentations by students from different schools here.

According to Pelayo, the two-day event aims at promoting eco-tourism and food production.

"It is a showcase of migratory birds from other countries and the municipality's growing duck-egg industry," he said.

The town, he added, wishes to share the said festival with other municipalities, schools and organizations since its message and intent is not only for the town but for the province and the rest of the country.

"A balance between the needs of the people and those of the environment," he said.

Event organizers have also lined up numerous activities for the two-day affair including a live band performance by Parokya ni Edgar.

Other production numbers include performances by the Tribung Dumara, a group of high school students.

Exhibits and trade fair for the town's products will also be conducted at the Miss Earth Park in Barangay Mandasig here.

There will also be bird-designed kite flying, itik race and dress-up- your-itik contest.

Local and foreign tourists are expected to witness the celebration.
