Province's health mission set
By Ian Ocampo Flora

GUAGUA -- The Pampanga Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) has made final polishing of the different preparations for the biggest medical and dental mission in the second district on Monday in one of the district hospitals here.

The "Free Medical and Dental Mission" organized by the Philippine-American Mission of Metro Washington DC, Inc (Medical Mission of Mercy), the Pampanga Provincial Government and the PSWDO would be targeting around 3,000 indigents.

PSWDO Luchie Gutierrez said they are expecting the number to increase as the days of the mission progresses though the present number, she said, is twice as bigger than the previous year.

"We are offering OPD consultation, minor surgery that does not require blood transfusion," Gutierrez said, adding that the project aims to provide basic health services to indigents in the province.

The medical and dental mission is set at Diosdado Macapagal Provincial Hospital in Barangay San Matias, Guagua near Jose Abad Santos Avenue (formerly Olongapo Gapan Road).

"Another that we are offering is plastic surgery for people with cleft palate," Gutierrez said, adding that the PSWDO have identified the beneficiaries for the mission.

Those interested to avail of the "general operation" services are requested to get a doctors' recommendation before proceeding with certain medical services.
OPD consultation, Minor Surgery, Dental Services, Optometric Services, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Free Medicines are also offered in the mission that would feature around 70 volunteer doctors.

Midwives and nurses are also set to volunteer in the mission, but Gutierrez said they would appreciate all the help they can get from volunteer practitioners and concerned individuals.

The medical and dental mission is set on February 4-8 and would start at 8 a.m.

Those interested may contact the PSWDO (455-0280) and Diosdado Macapagal Provincial Hospital (900-2734) for details on the available services and pledges of support.
