MEXICO -- Several hours after a vehicular accident that killed five persons at North Luzon Expressway (Nlex) in Mabalacat town, a man also lost his life in an accident along the expressway here.
The victim was identified as Fidel Moreno, who died on the spot at 1 p.m. Thursday when a trailer truck he was riding in with Hener Monteza accidentally hit the beam of a bridge at Nlex in Barangay Suclaban, this town.
Police said the truck bearing license plate ZGA-767 was cruising at the northbound lane of Nlex when the incident happened.
Mexico Police Chief Fernando Gonzales said Monteza, the truck driver, lost control of the vehicle that swerved towards the right shoulder and rammed the bridge's foundation.
Monteza sustained injuries, while Moreno was killed in the incident.
Nlex officials said some motorists fail to follow safety traffic rules in using the highway, thus resulting in accidents.
According to the police, the Mexico accident is a self-inflicted accident.
Nlex surveys on accidents within the toll road point to dozing off while driving as one of the causes of vehicular mishaps in the past.
Authorities urged motorists using the freeway and the national highway to follow traffic rules to avoid fatal accidents.
