Tulabut: DONG, in the Net, in Capitol
By Noel G. Tulabut
My Palm Notes

MUCH has been said about this public servant in so short a time.

I tried doing an experiment-research about Pampanga Third District Congressman Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales on the Internet.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

And wow! In Sun.Star's Google-assisted search engine alone, there were 10 web pages that contained 10 articles each about this neophyte congressman.

I tried no further in Google's main search page because I knew what it was going to yield for me considering the other newspapers and magazines that carried stories about Congressman Dong.

The web version of Sun.Star Pampanga does not even carry all the news stories and other editorial articles that can be read in its hard copy version.

I would surmise than that there would have been more stories about Congressman Dong.

In its online version (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/pampanga/index.html), Sun.Star listed various stories about the good congressman from San Fernando.

They varied from his early days as Board Member where he had to make for his name to the eventual pay-off that landed him the seat of third congressional district in this home province of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

*****
Pay-off could probably be a colloquial word.

Should somebody want it more formal that could be translated to "yield", "dividend", "reward", the list goes on.

I am not into semantics, but whether one likes it or not, reality stares us in the eye that this man is reaping what he had sown.

He has worked hard not for his self-glorification but for a more meaningful public service.

Thus, the respect and honor that has earned for him a Congressional seat.

At the rate he is showing how elected officials should conduct themselves in office, I would not be surprised if he bags the governorship in the near future.

He could give San Fernando Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and Vice Governor Yeng Guiao a run for their moneys should he opt to seek the Capitol post.

*****
Why would he not? And why could he not? Congressman Dong, at this early part of his congressional career, has already made a big dent in Pampanga's political landscape.

His ripples of initiatives have become waves of progressive undertakings in furtherance of one common goal of politicos: development and prosperity.

Only recently, this man who is originally from Mexico had gotten a Congress nod for the P1-billion rehabilitation of lahar-ravaged Bacolor town.

Congress has passed a resolution entitled "An act establishing a special fund for the rehabilitation of Bacolor, Pampanga, and mandating the National Government and selected government corporations to allocate funds for such purpose."

It was an easy breeze for the bill filed by Congressman Dong. This is something remarkable of the neophyte member of the House since this initiative required some funding.

Already, such a significant feat is already tucked under his belt as a legislator. This, among the other bills and resolutions he has filed in Congress that has both national and local applications.

Plus, of course, his continuing fulfillment of his campaign pledges like infrastructure projects i.e. roads, bridges, covered multi-purpose halls among others.

What's good about Congressman Dong's performance is that he is able to report them well to the public. This speaks well of his outstanding PR to barangay leaders, businessmen, media, teachers, youths, and other sectors.
