Monday, March 31, 2008 SM Pampanga joins 'Earth Hour' By Albert B. Lacanlale
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Lights at SM City Pampanga went out one after the other until the mall was significantly dim last Saturday.
But it was not power failure nor a terrorist attack, but a stand that SM Supermalls took in support of the fight against climate-altering global warming.
The ceremonial one-hour switch off of practically half of the lighting system of SM Pampanga was also part of the international movement dubbed "Earth Hour", which has been launched last year in Sydney, Australia.
Earth Hour, designed as a statement about climate changes, involved all SM Supermalls nationwide and millions of people, businesses, government and civic organizations around the world.
Today, SM Supermalls is expected to issue report as to how much electricity was conserved in the mall during the one-hour partial black-out.
