Monday, March 31, 2008 Lyceum reigns supreme at WNCAA
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- It has been a close game between Lyceum of the Philippines and University of Perpetual Help with the former winning the championship title for the Women's National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA).
The Manila-based school met in a close fight last Friday with the Laguna-based school at the People's Gym at the Capitol Grounds here for the Championship games of the MNCAA national games now in its 5th season.
Lyceum had been the champion of the National Capital Region (NCR) regional finals while University of Perpetual Help Laguna bested schools and universities in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) area. The Two teams were able to niche victories against other regional finalists.
The power-packed games started with Lyceum scoring the lead in the first quarter at 12-11 which ended with a couple of free throws for Lyceum. The University of Perpetual Help, however, was leading in most of the second quarter and managed to place a single point advantage at the second quarter with the score board listing a 21-22 scores.
Perpetual Help University's momentum deteriorated as Lyceum managed to bounce back placing eleven points on the score board over the sturdy Laguna team. Lyceum finally took control and is this years WNCAA champion.
