GSIS holds scholarship raffle program
By Ian Ocampo Flora

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- In accordance with its mission of providing quality insurance services to government employees, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has announced another scholarship raffle program this year.

In a letter by Socorro Saavedra, GSIS area manager for Pampanga Field Office, the raffle is open to all GSIS active members "in good standing."

Members may get the raffle form from GSIS offices.

Each winner will then be able to nominate a scholar. The scholar can be the winners' child, brother or sister, a grandchild, a nephew or niece, or even someone closer to the winner.

Each scholar will receive up to P20,000 for tuition fee per semester, for a maximum of 10 semesters, plus a monthly stipend of P2,000.

The scholars do not have to pass any competitive examination but must maintain a general average grade of 85, with no grade lower than 80 in any academic subject.

Graduates of any four or five-year college course are not qualified.

Winners of the scholarship grant shall be determined through an electronic raffle to be witnessed by GSIS officials.

There are around 200 slots available for this year's raffle, which would be divided in designated areas.

Those who will be selected in the National Capital Region (NCR) and regional offices shall be entitled to designate scholars to occupy the scholarship slots allotted for the area they were drawn.

The number of slots per major grouping is based on the configuration of GSIS membership for that area.

The available slots per major grouping include NCR with 66 slots, Luzon with 56 slots, Visayas, 37, and Mindanao with 41 slots.

Application forms are available at all GSIS branches and offices, or through GSIS liaison officers.

This can also be reproduced or downloaded from the GSIS website at www.gsis.gov.ph. The application period is from February 4 to April 11, 2008.
