6 nabbed for selling fake cell phones

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Six suspected swindlers were arrested in this city Friday afternoon, after allegedly selling fake cell phones to two beauty parlor employees in this city.

San Fernando Police Chief Renato Soria identified the suspects as Danico Pascua, Joel Fabel, Jonathan Enriquez, John Fabel, Dennis Pascua and Robert Corpuz.

Soria said the suspects, who are all residents of Quezon City and Caloocan City, were cornered in a police checkpoint set-up in Barangay Telabastagan here.

On board a Senaki Taxi bearing license plate PWT-787, the suspects were fleeing from two victims, Aileen Malonzo, 26, and Domingo Ofalsa, 32, who are both working for a David's Salon branch in Barangay Dolores here.

Soria said the suspects duped the victims into buying Nokia cell phone units, which were found to be imitation of the famous cell phone brand.

He said the victims immediately alerted police authorities when the suspects refused to refund the money the victims paid them for the cell phone units and instead fled towards the north.

"The victims were offered cell phones, however, upon payment of both victims, they discovered that the cell phones were fake and the suspects immediately fled on board their taxi," he said.

During arrest, the suspects yielded 11 fake Nokia N-Series cell phones and about P5,000 in cash.

Authorities said appropriate cases were filed against the suspects for swindling. (ABL)
