C. Luzon police summer sportsfest starts

CAMP OLIVAS -- The Central Luzon police on Tuesday held their Summer Sportsfest Inter-Office Basketball and Volleyball Competition here.

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 Summer Sportsfest chaired by Senior Superintendent Efren Yebra, director of the Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) 3 is an annual command activity participated by all the provincial and city police offices in the region including the Regional Support Units (RSUs).

According to Superintendent Oscar Albayalde, chief of the Regional Police Community Relations Division (RPCRD), the Sportsfest 2008 was participated in by basketball and volleyball teams from Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Zambales provincial police offices; Olongapo and Angeles city police offices; Regional Mobile Group (RMG); Regional Health Service (Dental); RIAS; Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 3; Regional Intelligence Office (RIO); Regional Traffic Management Office (RTMO); National Police Commission (Napolcom) regional office; and Police Regional Headquarters (RHQ).

The kick-off ceremonies started with the parade of colors around the camp.

The formal opening of the sports competition was declared by Central Luzon Police Director Errol Pan, who also tossed the first ball for the first game in basketball assisted by Vice Governor Joseller Guiao, as the guest of honor and speaker.

In his message, Guiao said sports enthusiast and an unbeatable basketball coach in a couple of teams in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) games said winning is not everything.

"The most important thing is how you played the game; and unity and teamwork are still the best weapon for a team to win in any sports competition," Guiao added.
