San Simon aims for 1st-class town status
By Raymond C. Garcia

SAN SIMON -- This second-class municipality is gunning for a first-class status.

"If there will be a reclassification this year, I'm sure San Simon will be reclassified as a first-class municipality," Mayor Rodrigo Canlas said.

If this happens, San Simon will join the towns of Mabalacat, Mexico, Lubao, Candaba, and Arayat, among others, which are already classified as first-class municipalities.

During the first term of Canlas in 2001, the town was classified as a fourth-class municipality. In his second term as mayor, the town's status was elevated to second-class, following the increase in its Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) shares from the National Government. The number of investors and locators has also increased.
