CLARK FREEPORT -- An Aeta scholar of the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) recently earned his bachelor's degree with flying colors.
Twenty-year old Augusto S. Laxamana earned his bachelor's degree in Criminology during the AUF commencement exercises held recently in Angeles City.
Aside from receiving his diploma, Laxamana was awarded a citation for being the champion in the Annual Junior Law Enforcers Association Firing Competition held at the Regional Training School in Magalang, Pampanga.
Born to parents Crisencio and Esterlita Laxamana, the young Laxamana is among the 40 Aeta students assisted by the CDC's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, in partnership with AUF.
Laxamana, during his college days, has also actively participated in numerous activities related to Criminology: Forensic Lighting System and Technology in Criminal Investigation, among others.
His father, Crisencio, who is an employee of the CDC, said he is proud of his son's achievements. He is hoping that his son's feat would be emulated by other investor firms inside the Clark Freeport.
"My son's diligence and hard work has paid off. I hope that other locator-firms here in Clark would take notice of this and would inspire them to initiate similar scholarship programs for my people as well as other deserving students within the peripheries of Clark," the elder Laxamana said.
The program, established in 2004 during the term of Dr. Emmanuel Y. Angeles as CDC president, extends scholarships "to qualified and deserving beneficiaries living within the Freeport contiguous communities," said the CDC Community Extension Services Office (Ceso).
At least 40 scholars, majority of which belong to indigenous tribes of Mabalacat town in Pampanga and Bamban in Tarlac, benefited from the program.
Bachelor of Science in Education was the top choice of the student scholars followed by Criminology, Business Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Nursing, and Engineering.
On top of the scholarship program, CDC also provides the students with shuttle services from their residence to AUF and vice versa.
