Tuesday, May 06, 2008 Police official denies linking INC to Mataro killing
SAN Simon Police Chief Francisco Cortez Sr. said he did not issue malicious remarks against the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) in connection with the murder of Marcos Mataro along North Luzon Expressway (Nlex) in the town on April 27.
Mataro is a loyal member of "Dating Daan" religious group and TV program host of UNTV.
According to Cortez, the reports were "mere speculations and hearsays circumventing the crucial issues between the INC and Ang Dating Daan."
He said when Mataro was slain, he immediately ordered a manhunt operation against the killers.
"It is indeed impractical for me to utter such pronouncement that early time since investigation is still ongoing and never will I conclude to indict any person or any affiliation mainly if evidence does not warrant his or its involvement," he said.
"Be it may that the victim is a Catholic, a Protestant, an INC, a Dating Daan member or any religious affiliation, same procedure shall be accorded against the perpetrators," he added.
